Costumes with their own hands

Halloween the season is approaching, which means it’s time to clean up. Today, more and more people prefer to make costumes with their own hands. The survey conducted by LoveCrafts.com in 2020, 1,500 Americans were surveyed and found that 65% would rather sew a suit than buy a prepackaged kit from a big box store. Making a costume is a good way to have fun and test your creativity. There’s no time like the present to get started, and goodwill to help you!

Halloween is Goodwill’s biggest season. This year, people visited Goodwill back in August to find the perfect pieces for their costumes. Marketing specialist Desi Pappas says that by keeping up with the trends, the Goodwill team has really embraced the DIY culture.

Halloween costume coordinators and books

“One of the ways we do this in our stores is to have costume coordinators in every store. “Coordinators can help people purchase the items they need or the costumes they want to create,” Pappas says.

If you need a little extra help, Goodwill has created a Halloween image book that can be purchased online and in Central Florida stores. The image book features Halloween costumes that you can create from items in the store. There is also an additional page for each costume that shows all the details needed to complete the desired look.

The benefits of shopping at Goodwill

Whatever your look, a DIY suit from Goodwill can save you 20 to 50% over buying it at a big box store. You’ll also avoid matching up with everyone at the Halloween party. Bonus: Help support Goodwill’s mission of building lives with your purchase.

According to Kim Pranevich, vice president of marketing and promotions for the missions, more than 90% of the proceeds go directly to the missions’ services, such as employment programs, job training, vocational rehabilitation and more. “We employ more than 1,300 people in 6 counties here in Central Florida and provide prosperity planning for all of our employees and community members.”

Plus, when you shop or donate to Goodwill, you help reduce landfill waste. “Last year alone we saved £18.9 million from local landfills and we’re on track to save over £20 million this year, so this is another benefit of our mission to build lives that work,” says Pranevich.

So remember, goodwill covers you. You can enjoy shopping for a Halloween costume while giving back to your community.
