5th week of college football the season was filled with a little bit of everything.
Fans were treated to thrilling upsets, come-from-behind victories, and tons of mind-blowing statistics.
The day started with unrated TCU posting an impressive 55-24 victory over No. 18 seed Oklahoma. The Horned Frogs put up 668 yards against an Oklahoma team that looked like a national title contender just two weeks ago.
Later No. 1-rating Georgia rallied from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to win Missouri, 26-22. The defending national champions trailed at the 4:03 mark when Daijun Edwards rushed into the end zone and scored.
Other notable Saturday upsets included Ole miss‘ 22-19 win over #7 Kentucky, Mississippi Statea 42-24 win over #17 Texas A&M, Purdues 20-10 triumph over #21 Minnesotaand Techstunning win over No.24 Pete.
With so much trouble, there were plenty of staggering statistics to help reflect the breadth of this fun-filled day. Here are 10 stats and facts to check out from Week 5.
No. 14 Ole Miss upsets No. 7 Kentucky
The Ole Miss Rebels beat the Kentucky Wildcats after a late game by Jared Ivey and Tavius Robinson.
TCU put on an offensive clinic in the first half, totaling 479 yards of offense. It marked the highest offensive output of any team in one half this season.
Purdue 20, no. 21 Minnesota 10
Saturday marked Purdue’s sixth win over an AP-ranked opponent since Jeff Brohm took over as the program’s head coach in 2017. In the 10 seasons prior to Brohm’s arrival, the Boilermakers went 2-25 against ranked opponents.
Ex Wisconsin coach Brett Bielema and his Illinois The struggling Illini entered the Randall camp and ran the Badgers. The 34-10 loss was Wisconsin’s biggest home loss since 2008, when it lost to Pension state48-7.
Chase Brown rushes for a long TD
Chase Brown broke free for a 49-yard touchdown that gave Illinois a 31-10 lead over Wisconsin.
No. 3 Ohio State 49, Rutgers 10
Rutgers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead against Ohio State, which marked the first time the Scarlet Knights had led against the Buckeyes in nine games. Ohio State tied the game less than two minutes later and scored 28 unanswered points.
No. 9 Oklahoma State 36, No. 16 Baylor 25
Oklahoma State scored 36 points vs Baylorit was the first time the Bears had scored more than 30 points in 18 games, the longest such streak in the country.
The Hawks improved to 5-0 with the win over Iowa State. Kansas went 5-0 for the first time since 2009 and snapped a seven-game losing streak. Cyclones.
No. 2 Alabama 49, No. 20 Arkansas 26
Despite losing reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young to a shoulder injury, Alabama still looked almost unstoppable on the offensive end, cruising to victory over #20 Arkansas. Nick Saban is now 16-0 against the Razorbacks, including a season-ending win in 2007.
Mississippi State 42, No. 17 Texas A&M 24
Texas A&M’s offensive struggles continued Saturday as the Aggies scored just 10 points through three quarters. Texas A&M’s 109 points are its fewest through the first five games in 30 years.
No. 5 Clemson 30, No. 10 North Carolina State 20
Clemson has now won 37 straight home games, the longest home winning streak in the country.
TexasWin by 18 points West Virginia marked the Longhorns’ longest winning streak in Big 12 history (12 games total, 11 since 2012).
