SANDY HOOK BAY, N.J. (WABC) — Three dead dolphins washed ashore in Sandy Hook Bay over the weekend.
The dolphins were confirmed to be common dolphins.
On Saturday, the Marine Mammal Center took the dolphins out for necropsy. Results may take several weeks.
The dolphins die after the surge washing whales in New York and New Jersey in recent months. At least nine whales have died since the beginning of December.
On Saturday, Action Clean Ocean hosted a Save the Whale event with Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra.
The mayor has called for a halt to offshore wind projects and says he believes it is what is disrupting marine life.
