NEW HYD PARK, LONG ISLAND (WABC) – Three people were killed and several others injured in an accident near a catering hall on Long Island, police said.

The crash happened around 11:10 pm on Saturday on the Jericho Turnpike track near a catering hall called the Inn at New Hyde Park.

According to police, a 22-year-old man driving a 2012 Mercedes-Benz knocked down a 2010 Lincoln Town Car with a driver and five passengers who were inside on the east lane of the highway.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to local hospitals with injuries and are now in stable condition.

A catering employee said the murdered women were leaving the Sweet 16 party.

“It’s very disturbing, I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” said witness Jaylen Augustine. “I just hope – why it happened, I just can’t believe it.”

The investigation led to the arrest of 22-year-old Dante Lennon from Freeport, who was a Mercedes-Benz driver.

He was charged with three counts: murder of a vehicle, collision with a vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He will appear in court as soon as for health reasons.

The investigation into the disaster continues.
