Titusville High’s gymnasium will be named after former coach and teacher Laura Dixon in a ceremony Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the school.
Dixon, coach of the Terriers’ volleyball program for a quarter century, won 359 games before retiring in 1999. In 1997, she was the third woman inducted into the Florida Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame, and in 2004 she was inducted into the FHSAA Hall of Fame.
Her volleyball program won state titles in 1981 and ’83. She also coached softball for 16 seasons and led four of those teams to district titles.
Dixon has been named the FLORIDA TODAY Volleyball Coach of the Year four times, and the school’s annual Female Athlete of the Year is Laura Dixon.
