A 65-year-old Punta Gorda man has died six days after being hit by a car while riding his bike in Charlotte County.

A 65-year-old man from Punta Gorda died Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Before his death, he was being treated for serious injuries when he was taken to the hospital on February 13.

Jasmine Faith Haney, 22, of Port Charlotte, was westbound in the left turn lane on Edgewater Drive, just east of Bayshore Road.

A man riding a bicycle was traveling eastbound on the south shoulder of Edgewater Dr., east of Bayshore Road.

Haney turned left while trying to pull into the parking lot of a Marathon gas station and ended up crashing into a biker.

The woman then fled the scene after the accident.

Haney and the car were found a little later. The vehicle was impounded and Haney was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries and no valid license.

The accident remains under investigation
