A young, 700-pound moose that wandered into a Strasburg backyard has been rehomed, Colorado wildlife officials said.

“We did not move her because of aggressionDistrict Wildlife Manager Travis Harris said in a Colorado Parks and Wildlife news release.

The moose ended up in someone’s backyard on the morning of Monday, Oct. 3, according to the release. I was worried about the nature protection guards and the early start of the school day.

“Therefore, in the interest of public safety, we have decided to move it,” Harris said, according to the release. At 10 a.m., the moose, which was between 2 and 4 years old, calmed down

Local firefighters, sheriff’s deputies and state patrol officers helped load the moose into a horse trailer and it was later released into the wild.

“She will be much happier where she has been transferred,” Harris said in the release.

Strasburg is a town of 3,500 about 40 miles east of Denver.

“When outdoors, remember to give moose plenty of space,” the release said. “Moose are more likely to live in areas located near water with an abundance of willows, which are their primary food source.”
