A college volleyball player has died in a crash, Texas authorities say

Angelina Martinez, a student-athlete at Our Lady of the Lake University, was killed in a head-on crash in San Antonio, Texas, authorities said.

A volleyball player and a student-athlete were killed in an overnight car crash in Texas, authorities said.

angelina”LinaMartinez, 21, was driving northbound San Antonio around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, when another wrong-way driver hit her head-on, KHOU reported. Both drivers died at the scene and one passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to a news release from the San Antonio Police Department.

KHOU identified the other driver as Carlos Morante. The injured passenger has not been identified, but they were in the car with Martinez.

Martinez played volleyball and attended Our Lady of the Lake UniversityShe majored in kinesiology and played three seasons for the Saints volleyball team. According to the player’s biography, she was a junior.

“The void in our lives is unreal,” a friend of Martinez wrote Facebook October 10.

Martinez also worked as a bartender at Cantina Chizmozaanother Facebook friend said.

The San Antonio restaurant is located on the Facebook saying he had “suffered a huge loss”. The restaurant said the night she died, “she was there eating…she came in like she always did so we could see her outfit (and) she could feed herself and tell us she loved us. We are all beside ourselves with grief.”

“The best way to describe Lina is loyal, confident and beautiful. To know her was to love her,” Cantina y Comida Texicana Chismosa posted on Facebook.
