A new series will soon return to the halls of William McKinley High School — but this time, things will look a little different. The upcoming docuseries from Discovery+ and Ample Entertainment will explore the various tragedies and controversies that have dogged Ryan Murphy’s hit show Glee, both during its run from 2009 to 2015 and in the years since.
Over the years, the cast of “Glee” has faced misfortune after misfortune. In 2013, when the show was still on the air, Cory Monteith — who played the handsome athlete Finn Hudson, and who was also Lea Micheleguy on screen and off screen – died of an accidental heroin overdose. Then Mark Sallingwho played Noah “Pac” Puckerman, was arrested in 2015 for possession of child pornography and died of apparent suicide three years later.
In 2020, Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez, died in a boating accident, leaving behind a 4-year-old son. In the same year, Lea Michele, who hosted the show as Rachel Berry and is currently starring in the movie “Funny girlon Broadway, was accused of bullying on the set of ‘Glee’. actors Samantha Marie Ware, Heather Morris and others.
Not all members of the cast of “Glee” met a tragic or controversial fate. Darren Criss, who played Blaine, won Amy in 2018 for his work in the film “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”; Kevin McHalewho played Artie, became a finalist in the second season “RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race”; and Horde Overstreet, who played Sam, will co-star Lindsay Lohan in Netflix’s holiday feature “Falling at Christmas.” Meanwhile, Chris Colfer, who played Kurt, is now a successful children’s book author, but apparently still has a hard time being around some of the “Glee” cast members. In an interview dated October 11 Colfer Says He Won’t See Michele in ‘Funny Girl’ because, he said, “I can be called at home.”
trans Deadline, the upcoming “Glee” documentary will consist of three parts featuring interviews with the cast and crew, as well as their family and friends. A spokesperson for Discovery+ did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment.
The feature, which does not yet have a title or release date, is the latest offering from Discovery+ and true-crime company ID, which is also behind the recently released Armie Hammer exposé, “House of the Hammer”.
