A Washington man has played Powerball for years without winning big.
The Edmonds resident used numbers that were important to him, such as birthdays and anniversaries, the Washington Lottery said in a press release issued Monday, Oct. 10.
But this time, when he scanned his ticket with his lottery app, he realized he had won $50,000.
The man immediately went to his wife with the news of the win, then to Starbucks for coffee and muffins.
He plans to give some of the money to his niece to buy a new car. He also wants to donate money to “local relief organizations.”
Powerball costs $2 to play. According to the lottery, the odds of winning the $50,000 prize are 1 in 913,000.
Edmonds is about 20 miles north of Seattle.
