COLLER COUNTY

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after he left his pet parrot in a closed car for more than two hours on Saturday.

Sean Wilder, 63, faces charges of animal cruelty after someone noticed he left his parrot-coral locked in his car in a parking lot on Mission Hills Drive for several hours in the middle of the day on Saturday.

Deputies say the bird, when it arrived, had obvious signs of suffering. While MPs and the Collier County Pet Service waited for the fire department to open the car, Wilder appeared and unlocked the car.

The bird was taken by the Collier County Pet Service for examination. CCSO deputies say the temperature outside was 93 degrees, and in other cars nearby, it reached 125 degrees.
