PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) — A new pedestrian plaza has officially opened in Brooklyn.

It is located on Underhill Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street in Prospect Heights.

The city permitted the space through the Open Streets program. Road traffic injuries are reported to have decreased in areas where streets are now open to pedestrians only.

“They are a way to make permanent changes to our area that will help create public space and make traffic calming and safety a permanent part of life in the area,” one official said.

The aim is to create more such spaces in the area.
