JAMAICA, QUEENS (WABC) – An officer suffered a broken leg after being hit by a car that fled police in Queens on Tuesday night.

The incident happened shortly after 7 pm on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard. and 109th Street in Jamaica, where police found a man painting a black Honda Accord.

When police approached the suspect, authorities said the man jumped into a vehicle he was damaging and tried to drive away.

During the escape, the suspect hit the policeman with a car, as a result of which he broke his leg.

Police said the suspect and his accomplice had been detained.

They said the black Honda Accord seems to have been stolen.

The officer was taken to Jamaica, where he is in stable condition.
