CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) — A rapid fire caused terrible moments for residents of an apartment building in Brooklyn.
Flames were shooting from a fifth-floor window of the building at 1281 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights just after 8 p.m. Friday.
“I’m just blown away,” said Tiffany Smith.
Smith was in disbelief when she returned home to find most of her apartment destroyed after a fire broke out in the house next door.
“They came in from the next door – broke his window… destroyed everything,” she said.
The FDNY acted quickly, breaking out windows to get the smoke out of a number of apartments – including Smith’s. They managed to localize the biggest losses in the apartment where the fire started.
He was brought under control after half an hour, but Smith’s headache would last much longer.
“It’s horrible — it’s a mess. Now I just have to figure out what’s next,” Smith added.
Firefighters finished their work so quickly that they left before the Red Cross arrived, but they did, and they will support Smith and her family until they get back on their feet.
No casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
