Alec Baldwin is one step closer to finding out if he’ll face criminal charges in a fatal shooting on the set of his movie Rust … because cops finally turned over their investigation to the district attorney.
New Mexico prosecutors told TMZ … that the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday sent a report into the shooting incident to prosecutors, who will now begin a “thorough review” of the evidence before deciding whether to file criminal charges. .
It will be interesting to see if the DA Mary Carmack-Altwice accuses Alec – and possibly others – of the crime.

Prosecutors may have already shown their hand, as we reported recently asking New Mexico for help funding several potential prosecutions and naming Alec as a possible defendant.
Heather Brewstera spokesperson for the DA tells TMZ … now that Carmack-Altwice has evidence, her focus “will be on maintaining the integrity of the process, enforcing the laws of the state of New Mexico and seeking justice.”
More than a year has passed since then Galina Hutchins died in st fatal shooting on set in Santa Fe … and Alec claimed her death an accident and not his fault.
Alec tried to shift the blame to other crew members who he claimed should have checked the gun to make sure it was working properly and not loaded. Baldwin claims that he didn’t actually pull the triggerinstead claiming that the revolver fired itself after he pulled back the hammer.
