Alec Baldwin’s film “Rust” will resume filming, Galina Hutchins’ widow has agreed

Alec Baldwin picks up where he left off on the movie that took DP’s life – because her widow settled his lawsuit against Baldwin et al … and now he’ll be executive producing the movie side-by-side with AB.

Shocking news broke Wednesday morning for the drama Rust…namely, Baldwin is set to reprise his lead role – as are all the other cast members from the original – with the only difference being who is now directing the show… and it would be Matthew Hutchins.

Indeed … husband Galina Hutchins — who was shot and killed Baldwin last year — announced he would no longer pursue a lawsuit against AB or the producers of “Rust,” saying they had reached terms and agreed to drop his wrongful-death lawsuit.

Not only that, but he’s also rebuilding this movie…plus, he’s stepping in as the new executive producer and bringing this thing to completion – a stunning development and a complete 180.

Matt says, “We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, in our wrongful death case against the manufacturers Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of this settlement, our case will be dismissed.”

He goes on to say, “Pictures Rust, which I will now executive produce, will be revived with all the original core players in January 2023. I’m not interested in mutual accusations or assigning blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). We all believe that Galina’s death was a terrible accident. I’m grateful that the producers and the entertainment community came together to pay tribute to Galina’s final work.”

The attorneys and a representative for Rust Movie Productions LLC said they are happy to be on the same page as Matt and are excited to complete their passion project.

Alec, for his part, says… “Throughout this difficult process, everyone had a specific desire to do what was best for Galina’s son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.” Director Joel Souza also expressed his happiness at this turn of events – so it’s all good now.

While things may be fine in civilized terms, there’s still a criminal investigation in the system — and based on recent revelations by the Santa Fe County District Attorney’s Office … Alec isn’t out of the woods, and it’s entirely possible that he’ll be involved in responsibilities sooner rather than later.
