While the Mayfair Witches won’t be out until this year Halloween celebrations, it looks like it has a chance to become a horror season classic in the future. Alexander Dadario takes the lead role in AMC’s adaptation of Anne Rice’s sprawling supernatural trilogy, The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, and the trailer, released on October 6, is full of ominousness and intrigue from start to finish.
In Mayfair Witches, Daddario stars as Rowan, a young neurosurgeon who discovers that she comes from a family of witches, which has given her incredible powers. She is then forced to battle a spirit that has haunted her family – and sometimes worked in tandem with them – for generations.
The release of the trailer follows another adaptation of Rice’s classic for the small screen. In May 2020 Diversity announced that AMC has acquired the rights to two of her favorite series: The Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witch Life. The first adaptation of her vampire books, “Interview with the Vampire”, was released on October 2.
“It’s always been my dream to see the worlds of my two biggest series come together under one roof so filmmakers can explore the vast and interconnected universe of my vampires and witches,” Rice, who died in December 2021, told Variety in 2020. “This dream has become a reality and the result is one of the most significant and exciting deals of my long career.”

The plot of “Mayfair Witches”.
“Mayfair Witches” will follow Daddario’s Rowan as she deals with the fact that she comes from a family of New Orleans witches who work with a powerful spirit named Lasher. It will also explore the subversive side of witches and the lore that surrounds them. “The world of witches has enchanted and horrified for centuries,” showrunners Esta Spaulding and Michelle Ashford said in AMC press release. “And yet, Anne Rice’s singular lens on witches explored something entirely new. Women who are powerful, often brutal and always committed to subverting our current power structures.”
