At least nine people were injured in a mass shooting in FloridaHollywood Beach on Memorial Day, according to reports.
The incident, which injured at least three juveniles, happened in the area of the 1200 block of N Broadwalk Monday night, according to CBS Miami.
The news station reports that at least five people have been detained and one suspect may still be at large after the incident.
“Please avoid the area from Johnson to Garfield Streets as well as the Broadwalk due to the shooting investigation. Police presence has increased in the area. If you would like to be reunited with a family member, we have set up a reunion area at Johnson Street and N Ocean Bus Loop,” the Hollywood Department tweeted.
Witnesses posted online that the shooting happened outside Nicks Bar & Grill around 7:00 PM ET.
“THERE WAS A SHOOTING ON HOLLYWOOD BEACH RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES, SEVERAL PEOPLE SHOT BY STRAIGHT BULLETS.” – one of the eyewitnesses wrote on Twitter.
Mayor Josh Levy told WFOR-TV that paramedics treated the victims at the scene.
“The police are responding now. We have victims treating police and paramedics at the scene and taking them to the hospital,” Mr. Levy told WFOR-TV.
“It looked like people could get caught in the crossfire. But I can’t verify that.”
Hollywood Beach is a popular beach destination about 11 miles south of Fort Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami.
Spokesperson for Memorial Health System Janet Obario Sanchez told NBC6 that up to five victims were being treated in the trauma center of the Memorial regional hospital.
“It’s a fluid situation,” said Ms. Sanchez, who added that “a couple of minors” were among the injured.
A live camera feed from the city’s promenade showed dozens of terrified beachgoers fleeing the scene.
