The Biden administration is working to make online services more accessible to Americans. The bipartisan infrastructure law was passed in November 2021. In collaboration with Democrats, Republicans and Independents, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have developed Affordable Connection Program (ACP).

“High-speed internet is not a luxury. It’s a necessity, “President Joe Biden tweeted. “But too many families today just can’t afford it. So in November, when we passed the Bipartite Infrastructure Act, we created something called the Affordable Connectivity Program. ”

This program aims to help families whose annual income is “twice the federal poverty line or less.” In addition, families receiving benefits from federal programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, or Supplemental Security Income may also be eligible. A complete list of which programs satisfy the right requirement available at whitehouse.gov/getinternet.

According to an additional tweet from President Biden, “nearly 40% of American families are eligible” to participate in the program.

Biden administration says eligible families will receive $ 30

Eligible families will receive $ 30 in Internet connection bills. Twenty ISPs, such as AT&T and Verizon, have committed to offering a monthly plan of $ 30. This means that families eligible to use one of the participating companies will receive the services free of charge.

But don’t worry if your provider isn’t on the list for a maximum of $ 30. Eligible families can still use the ACP benefit for another provider and receive $ 30 from their existing account. The Biden administration has provided more than 1,300 ISPs that will accept a $ 30 discount.

In addition to free or discounted services, Biden’s administrator also offered financial assistance in purchasing the appropriate electronic device. Families eligible for ACP can receive a discount of up to $ 100. Those who receive can take advantage of a “laptop, desktop or tablet”.

“More than 30 million Americans live in places where speeds are too low or where there is no broadband infrastructure at all,” President Biden tweeted. “Thanks to the law on bipartisan infrastructure, we provide high-speed Internet infrastructure in every part of this country.”
