The Cocoa High 4×100 meters girls relay team improved on the record of their school and the Cape Coast conference on Thursday at the FHSAA Class 2A Athletics Meeting in Gainesville, winning the state championship.
The Tigers ran the race in 46.26 seconds, more than a second and a half faster than Cardinal Gibbons, who finished second.
The satellite took fourth place in the youth team standings with 33 points. Montverde won the 2A title out of 90. Dayton Lowe finished second for the Scorps at 3,200 with a time of 9: 23.02, and he was third in the 1600s at 4: 17.22. The 4×800 relay took second place in their race (7: 55.63).
The Cocoa Girls scored 30 points in the team, finishing seventh in the team event. Mia Lewis finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 37 feet 11 1/4 inches.
Second place in the high jump was taken by Laurel Philos of Satellite (5-3 3/4).

Softball
The jump started with home run Alicia Thompson, Melbourne High pounced on Harmony and held on to win 6-0 in a game in the 3-6A region on Thursday.

By the third inning Melbourne was leading three times. The Bulldogs have improved to 22-2-1 and are waiting for the winner of the East Ridge-Winter Haven game. The two winners will meet Tuesday at Melbourne High.
In another region, Viera defeated Seminol Ridge 9-0. On Tuesday, the “Hawks” will visit Bartow with the best sowing.
Eau Gallie lost to Auburndale 10-1 in the state playoffs of Class 5A.
“Comadores” scored the first goal in the third inning, but after four credits in the fifth inning Oberndale was in the lead until the end of the game.
Eau Gallie finished the season as the 7-5A District Champion with a record of 14-12.
Baseball
In the 3-5A baseball region Eau Gallie defeated Cypress Creek 5-4 to reach the regional final against New Smyrna Beach.

Eau Gallie opened the game with a great first serve. The Commodores scored three runs to build a 3-0 advantage over Cypress Creek.
In the sixth inning, the “Coyotes” lost 5-4 and loaded the base, but the deletion of David Morrissey took the “Commodores” out of the half. They held on to win the game.
Eau Gallie has improved to 20-6 and will host Barracudas on Monday at 7pm with a place in the state semi-finals on the line.
