BAY RIDGE, Brooklyn (WABC) — A man accused of fatally shooting 10 people in Brooklyn will make his first court appearance Wednesday.
Officers escorted 62-year-old Weng Sor from the 68th Precinct in Bay Ridge to court in downtown Brooklyn on Tuesday night.
It seems that Sohr wanted to say something to the reporters, but it is not clear what he wanted to say.
Sohr now faces charges of murder, attempted murder and assault after driving recklessly through several southwest Brooklyn neighborhoods on Monday morning.
Officials say the U-Haul he was driving was rented in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Authorities say Sohr was there to try to meet with President Trump before taking a truck to New York to see his family.
Detectives say this is clearly not terrorism, but rather the result of mental illness.
“Based on interviews with his family members and confirmed during questioning by members of the New York City Detective Bureau, we believe that Mr. Sor was suffering from a mental health crisis,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig.
Delivery worker Iji Ye died after the incident. Ye immigrated here from China 20 years ago and had three children.
As of Wednesday morning, a GoFundMe page had raised more than $17,000 for his family.
