CAP-CARAL

On Thursday, a Cape Coral man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug possession and possession of a firearm as a criminal.

Joe McCanth III, 39, was found guilty of the usual offense of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of marijuana.

On April 24, 2020, a Lee County MP stopped a car with a faulty light on Summerlin Road in Fort Myers. The car driven by McCant stopped, and the deputy said that there was a strong smell of marijuana inside. McCant admitted that he did not have a medical card of marijuana, and during the search in his pants was a black container with marijuana, which he admitted belonged to him. The deputy found in the car a firearm and a magazine for a pistol, as well as several plastic bags in a glass, which contained substances that appear to be various drugs, including cocaine and methamphetamine.

McCant was arrested and taken into custody.
