Pine Island was hit hard by Hurricane Jan, so Cape Coral Pet Vet offers free emergency pet care at two locations on the island.
Cape Coral Pet Vet is forced to use a temporary facility because, like many other businesses in Southwest Florida, it sustained significant damage from the hurricane, with 60% of the roof of the main facility ripped off by the storm. Owner Dr. Cecilia Fisher says it will likely be a month before she can return, but that’s not stopping employees from helping other businesses and people in need.
Fisher says Cape Coral Pet Vet sees about 20 pets, dogs and cats daily, that require everything from medication to treatment for serious wounds and minor infections.
Starting Wednesday, the team will travel to two locations on Pine Island to offer free services to pets because Fisher says she knows the need is great in the area.
“Most medical services — cuts, wounds, ear infections, skin infections; “We’re going to get some vaccines, so we can get them back into action, but most of the things we can offer other than surgery,” Fisher said.
Those two locations are 14261 Clubhouse Drive in Bacillia, 10 a.m. to noon, and 3417 8th Avenue in St. James City, 1 to 3 p.m. This will continue every Wednesday in October on a rolling basis. .
The Cape Coral Animal Shelter will be helping us and distributing pet food and supplies.
Fisher echoed the sentiment of many people and businesses in Southwest Florida: She just wants to do what she can to help.
