Chicagohenge photographers flock to Chicago’s Loop to capture the perfect shot

CHICAGO — Twice a year, Chicago photographers gather in hopes of capturing the perfect shot.

During the spring and fall equinoxes, the stars and architecture perfectly align the sun between the buildings of the Chicago grid.

Many photographers gather hours in advance to bid on a spot and get a chance to photograph what is known as “Chicagohenge.” This astrological event became a meeting place for photographers.

“It’s a time where we know we can all come here to be around other photographers,” said photographer Vashon Jordan. “Sometimes we go out and get a beautiful shot, and sometimes we might miss it, but we always look forward to being around other photographers.”

The next chance to catch Chicagohenge will be in the spring of 2023.
