Bonita Springs City officials are urging residents to remain vigilant as the Imperial River continues to rise. Laminar flow can cause internal flooding of rivers and canals. Residents of flood-prone areas near rivers and canals should take precautions.

Reminder:

  1. Do not walk through running water. Most drownings occur during flash floods.
  2. Remember that as little as six inches of moving water can knock you over. Two feet of water can wash away vehicles.
  3. Please stay away from broken wires as they can cause standing water to become electrically charged.
  4. Stay away from flood waters that can make you sick.
  5. Remember the phrase “Turn around, don’t drown!” Do not drive on flooded roads. Cars can be swept away in just two feet of moving water. …
  6. Do not drive around road barriers.
