The Collier County Office of Emergency Management is reminding contractors and landscapers that they are required to dispose of hurricane debris at an authorized solid waste collection facility.

The Collier County Landfill and several private facilities accept plant debris, construction and demolition debris, and other types of trash. Contractors are required to pay a disposal fee when the rubbish is removed.

It is a crime to dump hurricane debris or yard waste on the side of the road and in vacant lots. Residents are asked to assist in reporting illegal garbage dumps.

Anyone who witnesses illegal dumping is encouraged to record the details of the incident and contact Collier County Code Enforcement immediately at (239) 252-2440.
