KISHIMI, FL – Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to sign House 5 on Thursday, banning abortion in 15 weeks. He will sign the bill during a press conference at a church in Kissimmee.

“It is an affirmation of our values ​​that every life is important,” DeSantis said before signing.

DeSantis called late-term abortions killing children and said the opportunity to sign the bill was “really important.”

“We’re not going to let that happen in Florida,” DeSantis said. “As I said, today the bill provides for the protection of unborn children from abortion when the child reaches 15 weeks of gestational age.”

The controversial measure has sparked debate in the state. Democrats have previously tried to add exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape, incest or human trafficking, but those efforts in the state legislature controlled by the Republican Party have ended.

The bill does contain conditions that allow an abortion if two doctors confirm in writing that it is necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman or “prevent a serious risk of significant and irreversible physical impairment of basic functions of the pregnant woman other than psychological.” state ».

Additional conditions include if the fetus has not reached viability and two doctors confirm in writing that it has fatal fetal abnormalities.
