Eau Gallie advanced to the state’s semi-final Class 5A match after beating New Smyrna Beach 8-7 in the Region 3-5A final.
In the first inning New Smyrna Beach struck the first blow after a sacrificial fly and a single blow that killed two quick runs for Barracuda. Metax Mix added the series when he hit one to bring the Barracudas ahead 3-0.
Eau Gallie hit the board in the third inning after Josh Dexter brought the race. With a score of 3-1 Brendan Brag killed Homer in three rounds and brought the Comadores ahead.
This number for Commodores is not over. In the third inning they scored four more wounds and took the lead 8-3.
“The strikes were definitely one of our best things today,” Bragg said. “We have to keep hitting no matter who we face because we’re not going to win the game if we don’t give flights.”
New Smyrna Beach came back into the game when Mix scored a three-time home run in the fifth inning and reduced the lead to 8-6. The Barracudas scored again in the sixth inning, but Eau Gallie refrained from winning the game with a score of 8-7.
New Smyrna Beach finishes the season with a record of 10-16.
Eau Gallie (20-6) will head to Fort Myers for the state semi-final match against Colombia on Thursday at 16:00
