JAMAICA, QUEENS (WABC) — On Friday evening, two departing planes collided at JFK airport.

According to the FAA, the Delta plane was flying to the Dominican Republic when the American Airlines plane overran the runway.

Air traffic control noticed and forced the Delta plane to abort takeoff when it had already reached 115 mph.

The American Airlines plane apparently did not have clearance to cross the runway. This plane left for a flight to London about 20 minutes later.

The Delta plane, which stopped taking off, returned to the gate.
