The remains found in Tallahassee have been identified as the father, who was last seen in August 2021, Florida police said.

This is what the preliminary investigation showed skeletal remains found along Apalachee Parkway, belonging to Jason Winoker, the Tallahassee Police Department said in a Facebook post. The remains were found in a thickly wooded area on Monday, October 17, and immediately reported to law enforcement.

Winoker was last seen on August 17, 2021. in Tallahassee, reports the National System of Missing and Unidentified Persons. At that time he was 52 years old.

Husband and father of four children According to his wife’s Facebook post dated September 13, 2021, he left the hotel room he shared with his wife around 1 a.m. on August 17. Winoker was struggling with insomnia, so his wife suggested he went for a walk. She began to panic when her husband did not return by evening.

The hotel is less than a mile from where Winoker’s remains were found.

Winoker and his family are from Tampa but were in Tallahassee to drop off one of their children Florida State UniversityWCTV reports.

In the months since he disappeared, Winoker’s wife has continued to search and appealed to the public to help find her husband.

“Our 22nd wedding anniversary is in a few days. My heart is so broken,” she wrote in a March 25 post. “We miss him every day and still hope praying for a miracle.”

Since his remains were discovered, Facebook users have taken to the Missing Jason group to offer their condolences.

“It is very sad to see this news today. I held out hope that he would is alive and good,” wrote one user.

“I am speechless, and my heart and my love go out to you and your family,” another user said.

Police said the investigation remains open.
