MORRISANIA, Bronx (WABC) — Police say a 4-year-old girl was the only witness to the stabbing of her 7-year-old sister, allegedly by her own grandmother in the Bronx.

Police say the girl was in an apartment on Clinton Avenue in the Morrisania neighborhood with her sister, paternal uncle and paternal grandmother Tuesday morning.

At approximately 8:14 a.m., the 7-year-old girl’s uncle called 911 to report that he had just woken up to find his mother had stabbed his niece.

The police arrived within five minutes and found the girl lying on the bed, lifeless and covered in blood. She received more than a dozen stab wounds.

They got her into their police cruiser and took her to Lincoln Hospital.

“He ran from where he was with the little girl. Their property is a couple of houses away. So we just saw him running. A police car was right in front of my property. just put her right in the police car. He didn’t wait for an ambulance,” Ana Martinez said.

The grandmother, 65-year-old Marisa Yauger, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital together with her paternal uncle.

The victim was joined at the hospital by her parents, who live in New Jersey, and her 4-year-old sister. There is no previous family history of ACS.

Doctors at the hospital informed the operatives that the girl suffered a rupture of the trachea in the middle and lower part of the neck and a rupture of the left trunk that perforated the lung. The victim also underwent an ultrasound, which revealed that she had internal bleeding near her heart and had lost approximately one-third of her total blood volume. She was also found to have a possible punctured kidney.

The girl received a blood transfusion and was sent to surgery, now her condition is stabilized.

Police say the girl’s parents were interviewed while she was in surgery, and her 4-year-old sister was interviewed while she was still in the apartment.

Eugene was later arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted negligent homicide, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the operative, the grandmother had mental problems.
