In another blow to the family of security guard Buffalo, killed in a mass shooting, the fraudster allegedly tried to steal thousands of dollars from their crowdfunding account.
Here’s the deal … there’s an official GoFundMe for the family Aaron Salter Jr.a retired police officer who worked as a supermarket security guard where tragic shooting happened, and about $ 40,000 was raised.
But Aaron’s son says the fund was targeted this week by a fraudster who he said tried to steal his personal information and bank account numbers.
Aaron Salter III tells TMZ … he was combing a sea of messages on GoFundMe when he came across a message from a user who claimed he wanted to donate $ 4,000. But when he clicked on the message, he says his personal information was instantly switched with someone in Mississippi.
Aaron’s son says he managed to connect with the good people at GoFundMe and they returned the bill to his family.
A GoFundMe spokesman told TMZ … they responded to a phishing attempt against the Salter family and quickly secured an account. We were told that the funds were safe and delivered directly to the family.
Aaron’s son says they would be devastated if the swindler succeeded – because, he said, obviously the last thing they need while they’re grieving is someone trying to rob them blind.
