Sometimes during this college football season, the Heisman Trophy race doesn’t feel like a race at all. Sometimes it seems longer, slower CJ Stroud coronation party.
Week 6 felt like one of those times.
Stroud, who have dominated all season, were at their best again on Saturday, leading the way Ohio State to a A 49-20 win above State of Michigan.
His excellence combined with the lack of a Heisman winner’s defense Bryce Young due to injury, as well as some uneven performances elsewhere, fans may soon be asking: can anyone catch Stroud?
CJ Straud: The next great Buckeye
The Big Noon Kickoff team explains what makes Ohio State Buckeye quarterback C.J. Stroud one of the best in the country.
Take a look at how the leading Heisman candidates fared on Saturday heading into Week 6.
Note: Players are ranked by FOX odds starting in Week 6.
1. Ohio State QB CJ Stroud +160 (bet $10 to win $26)
It’s hard to imagine anyone stepping up to knock Stroud out of the top spot after the junior signal caller dominated once again.
Stroud once again put up eye-popping numbers in Ohio State’s win on Saturday. He completed 21 of 26 passes (80.8%) for 361 yards (13.9 yards per attempt). While he threw an interception — just his third of the season — Stroud also threw six touchdown passes, tying a school record and upping his season total to 25.
Stroud is the first Ohio State player to throw six touchdown passes on three different occasions, a feat he accomplished in back-to-back contests against Michigan State.
