In our series of questions and answers POPSUGAR Crush, we get to know some of the more intimate details of our favorite celebrities, from their perfect first date to their most romantic gesture. This month we’re obsessing over Tell Me a Lie star Jackson White.

The first season “Tell Me Lies” is truly a roller coaster ride from start to finish. Based on Novel by Carola Lovering 2018 the Hulu series of the same name focuses on the toxic, all-consuming romance between Steven DeMarco (Jackson White) and Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) for eight years. However, things finally came to a head during Wednesday’s season finale when it was revealed that Steven is engaged to Lucy’s childhood friend, Lydia (Natalie Linez), seven years after we last saw him leave Lucy at a college party for his ex-girlfriend Diana (Alicia Crowder). So what happened in the intervening years?

“I can’t fill those holes because we need a second season.”

Like the rest of us, White was “shocked” and “had so many questions” when he first learned of his hero’s fate. But it turns out that even he doesn’t know what happened between Stephen and Lucy. “I can’t fill those holes because we need a second season,” White tells POPSUGAR. “There’s seven years between those two time periods. So I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know. My guess is as good as yours.”

As of now, Hulu has yet to restore the show for the second season, but both White and Van Patten should return. “I’d love to work more on these people,” White said back in September, with Van Patten adding, “The first season ends in a way that has so much to fill, and I’d like to see what happens over the course of those eight years.” because at the moment it’s a mystery.”

All 10 episodes of Tell Me a Lie are available now. stream on Hulu. See what else White had to say about Tell Me Lies, dating and his real-life crush on Van Patten.

Lucy [because] fire [and] passion

Tell Me a Lie is based on the 2018 novel by Carola Lovering – What is your all-time favorite book?

I’m not a big reader, I’ll be honest with you. I read The Unbearable Lightness of Being [by Milan Kundera] in high school for an English class and it really hooked me. And then I read a book called The Good Hand [by Michael Patrick F. Smith] recently and that was great too. These are the first ones that come to mind. I don’t read as much as I should. This is true.

What do you like to order coffee or tea?

Cold black kvass or cappuccino with an extra portion.

What is your signature fragrance/cologne?

I think it’s called Reuzel. I got it on Amazon. This is an aftershave. Terence, this guy from Atlanta who did the hair and stuff on the show, he put it on me afterwards because Stephen has this crazy beard that never moves and I’ve been using it ever since. I think it’s so good.

What is your most memorable fan encounter to date?

This girl drove her Mercedes into the middle of the street and almost caused a hit-and-run, just to say, “Fuck you, Steven.” It was cool. So the other day this woman was really excited about the show and then she left and her husband was still sitting at the table and she said, “Oh my God, I love the show. You are rivals. Thank you so much.” And she left, and then the husband said, “Who are you?” [I was like,] “Oh, I’m on this show.” And he says, “Well, my wife likes it, so it has to be a cooking show.” And I said, “No, it’s not a cooking show. It’s actually quite the opposite.” And then he says, “So this is a show about food.” I said, “No, I guess technically it’s the other way around, but it’s kind of a romance show.” He said, “Oh, I’ll never see it. I will never watch it.’ It was funny.

What is your ideal first date?

I think it depends on the person. It’s important to find out what they do, and then try to do something that you both really enjoy, so you can take the edge off by doing something activity-based, go ice-skating, watch an old weird movie, do something where you don’t have to just sit and get to know each other. Just co-exist and enjoy the activities together, because being in a relationship anyway is just about being happy doing things together. And I think it’s a good story.

What turns you on/turns you off the most?

Talent driven by passion is the most attractive thing. And then the most unattractive thing is someone trying to be interesting and not interesting. I think this is really clear and obvious behavior, and it makes me uncomfortable when someone tries to give you their resume instead of listening to what you have to say.

What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for you?

Once he flew me to Paris. And the most romantic thing I’ve ever done? I don’t know I keep trying to do this shit – little things. I show love through action. So, I like to do things for somebody, whatever it is, giving them a ride, giving them a ride, doing something they need to do, helping them with that thing, or I just like to help. I think this is my love language.

Grace Van Patten recently said you were her crush IRL; would you say the same about her?
