RENO, Nevada – Avengers star Jeremy Renner says he broke more than 30 bones in a New Year’s Eve snowplow accident that left him in the hospital for more than two weeks.
Renner, who plays superhero archer Hawkeye in the Marvel film and TV series Universe, posted a photo on Instagram with the inscription:
“Morning workouts, resolutions – all this has changed this particular new year …. The result of a tragedy for my entire family and quickly focused on the unity of love that works. I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and consideration for my family and me …. Much Love and gratitude to all of you. These 30+ broken bones will heal, become stronger, just as the love and connection with family and friends deepens. Love and blessings to you all.”
Renner turned 52 in the hospital. He was hit by a snowplow while clearing a driveway near his home in Nevada, causing “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries,” his publicist previously told CNN.
He underwent two operations and was treated in the intensive care unit.
The “Mayor of Kingstown” star responded to a tweet from the show on Monday night, writing, “Beyond the recovering brain fog, I was so excited to watch episode 201 with my family at home.”
A 911 call log obtained by CNN shows that Renner was “completely crushed by the large ramrod (vehicle)” and that he was “having a very (hard) time breathing.” It goes on to say that “the right side of his chest has collapsed – his upper torso is shattered.”
Washoe County Sheriff Darrin Balaam said earlier that Renner’s plow, a motorized vehicle used for snow removal, began to roll while Renner was in the driver’s seat.
