NEW YORK (WABC) – Horrifying new details were released Monday about Mark David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon outside his Upper West Side building in 1980.
Chapman told the parole board that he knew it was wrong to kill the beloved former Beatle, but that he was seeking fame and had “evil in my heart”.
He told them he acted out of a “compulsion to kill” Lennon.

The comments were made to the parole board last September, when Chapman was denied parole for the 12th time.
He will next be eligible for parole in 2024.
