Lana Condor and Anthony De La Torre are not officially married yet, but it seems they already know the secret to a successful marriage: compromise. POPSUGAR will be featured in the interview Amazon’s wedding registration platformthe couple revealed that they are already compromising on everything, starting with theirs a wedding gifts. βI love cheese and Anthony doesn’t eat dairy. My life revolves around cheese,” he said “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” – says the actor. “One of the things we got from our wedding registry was a charcuterie board, but that’s something I can have fun with.” Music, on the other hand, likes espresso. Lana adds, “I’m not the biggest espresso fan, so he can get his own little espresso machine.”
Lana learned the value of compromise from her parents, Mary and Bob Condor. “My parents tell me that marriage is about compromise and sharing,” says the 25-year-old. The actual wedding planning process was also split evenly between Lana and De La Torre. “I feel like it was pretty even without leaning a little more towards Anthony planning a decent amount,” she continues. De la Torre adds, “We see each other in so many ways that it’s been pretty easy up until this point.”
Another thing they can agree on? Players. Lana loves Amazon’s wedding registry for its “huge portfolio,” but of everything it has, she and her husband-to-be are most excited about the turntable. “Whenever we come to someone’s house and they have a record player, it immediately brings their house together,” Lana explains. “You say, ‘Oh, these are cool people.’ At the end of the day, I just hope people think when we accept that we’re cool, too.” Adds De La Torre: “It will make us look stylish and like we have it all together.”
The record Lana is most excited to play on her new turntable is De La Torre’s upcoming EP, which she says will be released in February or March. “I personally would like to hear it as a record,” she says, hinting that De La Torre should opt for a vinyl release. “I think that would be amazing.” Lana continues, βHe’s so talented and I’ve witnessed how hard he works and the countless nights he’s stayed up all night. I looked into his various writing sessions. To be honest, I personally like to think that I inspired some of his music, so that’s also very nice.”
Lana says De La Torre’s work ethic is “one of the reasons I fell in love with him in the first place.” She notes, “When he sets his mind to something, he does it to the best of his ability.” But it’s not all work and no play for the couple. They love to dance at the end of a long day, which is another reason why a spinner is the perfect gift. “Sometimes at night Anthony and I will have a dance party together, so we usually include some Mark Anthony or something like that to dance to,β Lana reveals.
Lana and De La Torre met for the first time at the Emmys party in 2015, and they’ve been together ever since. “Being with Lana the first month we were dating, I felt like that was the first time I kind of let my guard down and let my walls down,” says De La Torre. “I felt safe. Not to be dramatic, I just felt safe around her.” For him, there was no doubt that she was his future. “You don’t really doubt it,” he says. “It’s just like, ‘Yeah, it just makes sense.'”
Lana echoed similar sentiments, saying they “hit it off right away.” She notes, “It was obvious that we were just vibrating on the same frequency for the first…well, I want to say the first month, but I’d say less.” After their first meeting, De La Torre decided to just dive into the business. He recalls, “I just said, ‘Hey, I know I’m supposed to like it… play it safe and wait… but do you want to hang out again tomorrow?’
De La Torre’s emotional availability was “a huge draw for me,” says Lana. “Anthony always says, ‘If someone likes you, they’ll do whatever it takes to be there for you.’ He was very much a testament to that. There were no games. Everything was very transparent. I think his transparency was something I was very surprised by and hadn’t experienced before.”
“A couple of weeks after that I was like, ‘You’re my boyfriend.’ I didn’t really give him a choice,β Lana continues, laughing. “He said, ‘Okay.’ [It was] very, very clear from the beginning that this is my man.”
De La Torre and Lana announced their engagement back in January. Their wedding is set to take place in the spring of 2023 and will include dogs and In-N-Out Burger. “We’re definitely going to have a big meal at our wedding,” says Lana. “It’s definitely going.”
