TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Reaching new heights helping cancer patients in the community.
Leon High School has raised more than $500,000 since the fundraiser began in 2007 for Leon Against Cancer.
Those dollars go directly to patients at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Cancer Center. This can help them pay for treatment, tests, transport and wigs for those undergoing chemotherapy.
Simone Thompson is co-chairing the fundraiser and says she and her fellow students are excited to make a difference.
“I think what’s special is that these are kids who just go for it and take the initiative to try to improve someone’s life or improve treatment or give them transportation, get them chemotherapy that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to get themselves allow, and so I hope that this is of special importance to all patients, and I know that they appreciate what we do.”
TMH diagnoses and treats more than 1,600 new cancer cases a year, with breast cancer being the number one diagnosis.
