MTA is adding more LIRR trains to ease overcrowding

MIDTOWN EAST, Manhattan (WABC) — MTA is adding more LIRR trains and more cars to those trains to reduce long wait times and overcrowding

It’s coming in response to complaints after the MTA brought full service to Grand Central Madison.

Starting Monday, three more commuter trains will be added to Brooklyn for the morning commute. Riders can board the 6:45, 7:39, or 8:09 train to reach Atlantic Terminal.

There will also be more peak-hour trains on the Babylon, Long Beach, Port Washington and Ronkonkoma branches.

Last week, videos on social media showed standing-room-only trains from Pensión Station and packed platforms in Jamaica.

“It was terrible. It’s about an hour each way, so it’s about 4 hours now, which was a little over 3, about 3 hours 15 minutes earlier. It’s unacceptable what’s happening,” said Ron Carter.

The MTA has heard complaints from riders about the railroad. On Monday, support staff will be wearing bright orange vests to help people get in touch.
