Man drowns while rescuing his remote-controlled boat, Michigan State Troopers say

Police say a 49-year-old Monroe County, Michigan man is missing and apparently drowned in Sterling State Park while trying to rescue a remote-controlled boat.

A 49-year-old man went missing and drowned while visiting a Michigan state park, officials and media said.

Corey Carabino of Monroe County visited Sterling State Park on the evening of Monday, Oct. 10, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Officers received a call that he was in the water, calling for help and struggling to stay afloat.

Officers believe Carabino went swimming to retrieve the broken-down remote control boat he was piloting.

Emergency responders were unable to locate Carabino and suspended the search just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, and resumed it later that day, the sheriff’s office said.

Divers found Karabin’s body Tuesday afternoon in the lagoon, about 8 feet underwater and 150 feet from shore, according to a news release.

He is believed to have drowned MLive, Monroe Newsand Click on Detroit reported.

Monroe County is about 40 miles southwest of Detroit.
