Stephanie Israel was in bed late on Saturday, October 8, when she had a strong urge buy a lottery ticket.

“The spirit just told me to go online and buy one,” she told North Carolina Lottery officials, according to an Oct. 11 news release. “There were only four minutes left until the draw.”

So the 39-year-old mom from Browns Summit went online and bought a Quick Pick ticket on the lottery website. Israel checked her email Sunday morning, she told lottery officials.

Her ticket was reported to have won Saturday’s Cash 5 drawing, officials said.

“I screamed for about 20 minutes,” she told officials. “I think I scared my family a bit.”

The Israel ticket brought her $501,544, officials said. After federal and state taxes, officials say Israel took home $356,147.

Israel now plans to invest her winnings in her family’s business, she told officials.

“We’re constantly thinking of new business ideas,” Israel said. “Our guys already have a landscaping business.”

Browns Summit is about 12 miles northeast of Greensboro.
