TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A badge dedication for the Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Office was held Sunday morning at New Mount Zion AME Church.
It is a place where the church and its congregants pray and bless law enforcement badges for their safety and well-being while on duty.
LCSO Assistant Sheriff Argatha Gilmore believes churches play an important role in keeping our community safe.
“We need a religious community. The vision of our sheriff, Sheriff Walt McNeil, is that the only way to deal with violence, murder, aggravated assault and youth issues is if we unite with our faith. community-based,” Gilmore said.
The purpose of National Faith and Blue Weekend is to strengthen the connection between law enforcement and community members through faith-based organizations.
