New York City Crimes: 19-year-old paraprofessional shot in head in Flatlands, Brooklyn, Department of Energy says

FLATLANDS, Brooklyn (WABC) — A 19-year-old New York City school employee is in critical condition after being shot in the head in Brooklyn.

The incident happened around 2:50 p.m. in front of 5022 Avenue M in the Flatlands area.

Police say the gunman fired four shots, hitting the teenager once in the head.

The Department of Education says the victim works as a paraprofessional in District 75, which is in the same building as PS 203 Floyd Bennett.

He was shot less than a block from the school. He was the intended target of the shooting, police said.

The victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

Police say the attacker drove off in a dark Lexus.

They describe him as a suspect wearing a ski mask, a red tracksuit and a black jacket.

The investigation continues.
