The Carolina Panthers will have a new coach and will be without a starting quarterback Baker Mayfield as they head west to take over Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Mayfield, the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, sprained his ankle in last week’s 37-15 loss San Francisco 49ers. The Panthers fired coach Matt Rule the next day. Sophomore coach Steve Wilkes is the interim coach.

Reserve defender Sam Darnold is on injured reserve (ankle), yes PJ Walker will start at QB for Carolina.

The Panthers are a wounded animal right now. Head coach Matt Rhule was just fired and starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is out for several weeks with a sprained ankle. And I’m sure you’ve seen the trade rumors involving Christian McCaffery.

Carolina is quickly on its way to the bottom, and I’m skeptical of a 1-4 football team traveling across the country to face a desperate Los Angeles team that needs a win in the worst way. I imagine Aaron Donald and that the Rams up front are salivating at the thought of the chase PJ Walker around all south.

That’s a big number, but LA has to go.
