EAST TREMONT, Bronx (WABC) — A police officer was shot in the arm in the East Tremont neighborhood of the Bronx early Tuesday morning.

The officer was hit at the intersection of East 183rd Street and Prospect Avenue just after 3:00 a.m.

He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in a police cruiser with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers assigned to the 48th Precinct responded to a report of a shooting in the area.

When they arrived, they were confronted by two suspects, believed to be armed.

Both ran on foot, one to the east, the other to the south.

One was detained nearby, the other is still being sought.

Police are still investigating who shot the officer.

The police did not return fire.

Police called in Level 2 to search for the suspect at the scene and nearby homes on Pelham Parkway.
