LOS ANGELES, Calif. (WABC) – Have you ever had a couple of slices of pizza and still feel like you could eat more?

Well, Pizza Hut understands. They are making a huge cheese pie in an attempt to break the record for the largest pizza in the world.

“And we’re doing this to celebrate the return of the Big New Yorker, which is our biggest pizza. So we wanted to make the biggest pizza in the world to celebrate,” said Pizza Hut President David Graves.

The company is building or creating its masterpiece at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

When it’s ready, the giant pizza will occupy about 14,000 square feet. They use over 13,000 pounds of dough and nearly 5,000 pounds of sauce.

To make this pizza, the company uses rectangular slices of dough topped with sauce, cheese and pepperoni. The cooking device will then hang over the pizza to cook it.

“It’s a giant pizza. It is approximately 14,000 square feet. So when you think about it, that’s about 68,000 slices of pizza when we’re done. And the best part is that none of it will be wasted. We may actually donate it to some local food banks here in the Los Angeles community. So we’re very excited about that,” Graves said.
