FLUSHING, Queens (WABC) — Community members are planning a rally against potential casino plans near Citi Field in Queens.
Protesters say building a casino in the area would “destroy the Flushing community.”
Mets owner Steve Cohen held several “vision sessions” earlier this year.
He released a report last month that said community members would like to see something built in the area, but did not mention a specific casino.
But Cohen is reportedly considering one of three licenses to build a casino in the New York area.
Concerned residents say the casinos are “sucking money out of local communities while residents, like many in Flushing, struggle with rent and the skyrocketing cost of living.”
They also want to protect 50 acres of public parkland.
