Queens Assemblyman Clyde Whannell claims he made an emergency landing while piloting a private plane

SHOREHAM, Suffolk County (WABC) — A New York state lawmaker says he had to make an emergency landing while flying a private plane.

Clyde Whannell, who represents Queens, tweeted on Friday night that he had suffered engine failure during his flight and had to land on a beach in Shoreham, Suffolk.

Vanel says it happened around 2:15 p.m. and that he had another passenger on board with him.

He says he used his training to land the plane in the nearest safe place, and that he’s thankful he was able to get away unharmed.

The FAA is investigating the landing.
