Melbourne won the region’s 3-6A final over Winter Haven 7-5, moving into the state’s semifinals for the first time since 2012.
The Bulldogs held a big offensive inning in the fifth. They scored five wounds in the half to get ahead in the game.
In the sixth inning Winter Haven scored four wounds and tied the score at 5.
Michael Petit broke the draw when his single brought two challenges and pushed the Bulldogs to a 7-5 victory.
This season Melbourne has improved 25-2 and 18-0 at home. The Bulldogs will meet Pace on Friday at 10 a.m. in Fort Myers.
Softball
Melbourne softball continues to skate after a 3-0 win over East Ridge in the regional 6A semifinals.
In the first three innings the game was without points. Nevaeh Loveridge hit the single at third baseline to bring in two runs.
Sofia Valkurt led Lowridge to score another run and help the Bulldogs reach Friday’s 3-6A region final.
Melbourne will play with the winner of the game Bart-Vier.
