Sprout’s Farmers Market is postponing the grand opening of its new store in Cape Coral, scheduled for Friday, October 7th.
A spokesperson for the chain said in an email that it has been delayed, but did not have details on how long it would be or whether the store would reopen without a ceremony. The chain’s website still lists the store as “opening soon.”
The long-awaited store at 1800 NE Pine Island Road was scheduled to open with a ribbon cutting at 6:45 a.m. Friday, with doors opening to customers 15 minutes later.
Sprout’s second location, this one on South Tamiami Trail, was temporarily closed and is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 4, according to the chain’s website.
Cape Coral and Estero, like much of Southwest Florida, were affected by Hurricane Ian. The damage left many without power and the supply chains clogged.
Like all grocery chains in the area, Sprout’s was forced to close stores in the path of the hurricane on Sept. 27.
Phoenix Sprouts is one of the largest and fastest growing specialty retailers of fresh, natural and organic foods in the United States. It operates about 380 stores in 23 states nationwide, including 35 in Florida.
The Cape Coral store is expected to employ 100 people when it opens.
